At Resilient Minds Psychology we believe in the butterfly effect
When small changes lead to big impacts
Our Ethos
At Resilient Minds Psychology, we believe in the butterfly effect, the notion of interconnected – that one small change has the power to influence a much larger complex system. In essence, every small action has an impact!
We recognise that all minds are unique but believe we all share the ability to change, no matter our age, neurotype or past experiences. Change is possible through the power of neuroplasticity, the brains ability to adapt, grow and reorganise. However, we also recognise change is process, the journey is not always an easy one and we all could use a little help and support along the way.
At Resilient Minds Psychology we are passionate about helping you make that first step towards change. We work closely alongside you until you are ready to leave the old behind and spread your wings.
Collaboration is key and we ensure that we foster your autonomy throughout therapy – so therapy is not a process that is ‘done to you’ but with you. This allows you to build upon existing insight and psychological resilience. By taking this approach, we believe it supports you in moving forward with a new found understanding, enhancing psychological resilience to face your future.
How we work with you
We prioritise a responsive, empathic, and a non-judgemental approach to client relationships.
We support you on your journey of change and do this through building a comprehensive understanding of how patterns, difficulties or areas of functioning you wish to change have emerged. Once we have achieved a joint understanding of this, we work with you to develop alternative strategies, that make sense to you.
The work we put into developing a collaborative and solid understanding of why and how these patterns and behaviours came about initially, helps ensure the best chance of establishing new patterns and behaviours that will remain longstanding.
We work alongside you, at a pace that feels comfortable to you, until you are ready to implement the changes on your own.
Our Passion
At Resilient Minds Psychology, we have a passion for supporting people facing trauma and specialise in working with problematic behaviours.
At some point in our lives, many of us will experience a stressful or traumatic event. This can often leave us feeling distressed and overwhelmed. Sometimes it can lead to us developing unhealthy coping behaviours (addiction, deliberate self injury, aggression) unhelpful thinking patterns (negative ways of perceiving a situation) relational styles (unhealthy patterns that play out in key relationships). These coping styles are our way of trying to survive the past trauma we have experienced.
We consider all behaviours as trying to meet a basic human need or cope with a past trauma that remains present, even those we are not consciously aware of. Therefore, we do not judge coping behaviours, we see them as a way of escaping from pain or surviving trauma. Taking this approach allows us to jointly explore these behaviours, helping us uncover what needs they are meeting. We can then support you in meeting these needs in more healthy and prosocial ways that make sense and work for you.

Our Experience
We have experience of supporting change through psychological therapy with both adults and adolescents. We recognise that one size does not fit all – we therefore draw upon a number of evidence based psychological models and theories, allowing us to find the right approach for you. To learn more about the approaches we typically use, see the ‘about Louisa’ page.
Our experience also includes forensic risk assessments and expert witness testimony, clinical and academic supervision, in addition to one-off psychological assessments of cognitive functioning and adult ADHD assessments.
See our services section for more detailed information on how we can help with each of these areas.
